Artist's that I like

So last tuesday my teacher, Alex Piccirillo asked me who my favorite artist is. I responded, Caravaggio

totally forgetting all of the artists that I have discovered over the past years. I mean don't get me wrong, Caravaggio is one of the many painters that I like. I love the lighting of the piece and the dark contrast compared to the soft yellow light. All of his pieces are like that, but he is just one of the many few.

I also like James Abboutt McNeil Whistler.. everyone knows him for painting Whistler's mother. I really like his work, it is very real as well as extremly stylized. It is kind of how my paintings are, realistic but stylized. I enjoy his work a lot.

Another painter that I like is John White Alexander

I have noticed that I like American Artits's in kinda of the same time period. Realistic, but all of these painters have their own stlye, their own unique intrigue about thier work. I hopefully will be like that as well as I develop my art work.

I like to multitask?

So I am doing a couple of things right now. I am still trying to work on my family portrait.. maybe I will work on that next week?? As you can see above I am doing another self portrait. I am really excited about this one, it is starting to come out really nice. It has a lot of bold strokes which I love to do. It's funny I took off five days so I can have some time to paint at home, and so far that hasn't happened. I wound up taking a shift at East Hanover and I am work 9 a.m. to 8p.m. on Sunday, what can I say?? I like money. Anyway, I am also doing some mini sculptures of an iris flower. I am really excited because I like to sculp a lot, but I don't have much practice in it.. except with Kendal, one of the manyart teachers at my school. He reminds me of a big fluffy whale with glasses haha. Here are some pictures I took that will help me with my sculpture

Sculpture

This project was the longest sculpture project I have ever done. It was so time consuming but totally worth it. We were asigned to do a self portrait of our selves, how we view us. In my class people did their hobbies and interests, one student did his head as a robot, another with a mask on. I wanted to do something a little different. At first I wanted to do something different with the facial expression, so I decided to open the mouth. It eventually became my view on ignorance and how people's thought process becomes different when affected by it. When people are blinded by themselves, they start speaking their own ignorance, until it consumes them completely. That was the message I was trying to convey.

Painting my Freshmen year of College

First self portairt.. hooray

I took this picture at the Iris Gardens in Montclair.

This picture is one of my favoirtes, even though I never finished.

This painting we were only allowed to use blue, orange and white

These are my paintings from my freshmen year of college. It's basically in order from my first painting of the semester (the black and white still life) to the portrait I did of my friend Ashley in her basement.

Recent Stuff

Right now I am doing a family portrait, I am giving it to my grandma. I wanted to do something special for my grandmother, something to do with my grandfather who passed away in October of 2008. It has been extremely tedious and frustrating.. but I am doing a little at a time. Although it is frustrating, I am enjoying it. I love to see how my skill has developed, I am really excited to paint my next project, something that is not so limiting.

On a another note, I drew flowers that my friend gave to me from work..

These are drawings from my Life Drawing class I took last semester. My teacher gave me a B at first because he felt like I wasn't really into my drawings. I really enjoy drawing the human figure, it is my favorite thing to do.
